Explorer!

A quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog.

(The following video is not meant to be instructional, simply me playing with video editing and practicing my cursive as well.)

Parent guide:

Explore this page on the school website with your child and do a few activities.

https://ad.lethsd.ab.ca/practice-at-home

Cursive writing: Students have practiced all the lower-case letters in cursive, I’ve given them two pangrams, or sentences that contain every letter in the alphabet to write out at least once to practice their letters. I would suggest the look up how to form the letters online in case they’ve forgotten. This website gives a good guide for all the letters.

If students are in need of catching up on their work, I encourage them to take advantage of the time today to catch up on their work in any subject.

If parents could also take some time today to send me some pictures of their work, that would be greatly appreciated so I can get see if some kids need a little extra support with their work. Please remember that I do have availability throughout the day to meet one on one to work through some of their work together.

We had a great lesson yesterday on what authors do prior to engaging in the physical aspect of writing. Mr. Scott, the students and I explored the strategy THINK, TELL. We had fun modelling this with the students. They then had the chance to go into break out groups and share something they were thinking about. It was great jumping from group to group seeing the ideas starting to flow. Afterwards we reflected on What made it easy to tell a story and What made it hard. A fabulous suggestion from a student was using a picture to help us think about a story. As homework, please have your child bring 1 picture to our Monday writing session. The picture will be used as a springboard for our writing process. On Monday we will practice again with the THINK, TELL strategy and move towards the SKETCHING of our stories.

And finally, the students will be using booklets to write their stories. They are ready to be picked up at the front of the school anytime.

Français :

Faire les pages 62-63 dans l’Alphabetik.

Parent guide :

Math : Students are working on counting by 5s, 10s, and 3s.

French: Students will be learning about word families, words that have the same root, for example: swim, swimmer, swimming.

After that, they learn about silent letters in French. Most of the time, you don’t pronounce the last letter of a word in French. Students are finding which letter is silent by adding an “e” to the end and paying attention to how the pronunciation changes.

Students are to continue to prepare their show and tells.

Social Studies: Students are to complete the culture page of their Tunisia brochure. I give an example in the video that the students can follow, or they can find the information themselves.

Science: Students can continue to work on their animal projects, specifically the appearance and needs pages.

Francais:

Alphabetik pgs 57-61

Montre et raconte: commencer à préparer.

Jeudi: Albert, Cheyenne, Cohen, Jackson, Koby, Emily O

Maths:

Livret pgs. 157-158

English:

Be sure to finish reading chapters 1-3 of Fantastic Mr Fox and have finished the questions.

Think of something that’s happened to you that would make an interesting story.

Sciences:

Commencer ton projet de recherche sur un animal. Regardez les videos suivantes :

Etudes sociales:

Commencer la brochure sur la Tunisie.

Parent guide :

French : Alphabetik page 57, students write what the pirate sees, and then choose the bird who’s name rhymes with “chien”

Alphabetik pages 58-61. Students read the informational story about sea life, and then answer the questions. I go over the questions in my video, and then read the article out loud for the last couple minutes.

Show and tell. During our class meeting on Tuesday, we discussed the format for show and tell. In French, the students are to choose something, and answer the W’s: who, what, where, when and why of the thing they have chosen. My hope is that they can come up with at least 2 sentences for each W. The first group of students are presenting on Thursday. I have attached an explanation and rubric in French as well.

Math: Students are finishing pages 157-158 of their booklet. It talks about counting by 2 and 4.

English: Students should hopefully be finishing the first 3 chapters of Fantastic Mr Fox with the corresponding questions. Wednesday’s class meeting will include a story writing lesson with M. Nish and Mr. Scott, students should be thinking of something that happened to them that they can write a short narrative story about.

Social Studies: Students can start work on the brochure for Tunisia. I go over what they should accomplish today in my video and give a brief explanation of how to do research. Research in French is very difficult for students in Grade 3 and can still be a challenge to do in English. As we go through this project over the next couple weeks, try to find some time to do the research with your child, ensuring that they get appropriate information from appropriate websites.
